After making the decision to stay in their current ranch-style house, clients Bill + Wendy looked to update it to truly make it feel like their forever home. Richard Brown Architects had already completed the master plan for the master bedroom + closets, vault extension into the dining room, all new sun room with a stairwell up to a new studio loft over the garage, and deck extension. Our team was brought on board to design the kitchen, stairways, and for full interior design throughout the house.
Working within the newly wide open floor plan, our material selections respond to context by playing with larger scale tile + wide plank floors, and express continuity in the repetition of just a few select finishes: horizontal-grain white oak, matte black and muted warm grays. All selections were intended to strike a balance of warmth, calm and embracing the greenery + gardens outdoors. The furniture selections, as well as the kitchen and stairway design read as a more refined mid-century style + respond elegantly to their architectural surroundings.
